San Diego unemployment is at its lowest level in almost 11 years. According to the San Diego Tribune, unemployment rates are lower than the national average because of opportunities in construction, government, and transportation. One of the biggest demands going into 2018 is for technology workers. California-based tech companies are seeking to fill open spots in information technology and they have a lot of vacant roles to fill.

Positions with the Highest Demand

A recent study suggests San Diego is the place to go for technology jobs. Companies in San Diego are searching for web developers, analysts, and a wide range of other technological skills. The skills in the greatest demand are:

  • Sixty percent of firms polled said they intended to hire analysts who can help strengthen firewalls and protect databases and networks to keep attackers from stealing valuable data or causing other system damage.
  • Wireless network management. Over half the employers who responded said they were searching for network administrators who could keep systems running efficiently, working on site to evaluate and repair network problems that slowed productivity.
  • Database management. Not everyone works from the cloud. Half the respondents said they were hiring professionals who could upgrade systems and maintain database function, implementing new solutions as they develop.

Employer Priorities

Administrators at large San Diego employers say they are entering 2018 with concerns about security. Hiring trends will focus on safeguarding current systems and protecting valuable company data. They also indicate that a large portion of their technology spending will include upgrading equipment for greater efficiency and that in hiring they will choose individuals who can help them toward that goal

Other goals include pursuing technological innovation that could create opportunities for business growth and retaining current talent.
