Since December 2020, about 64% of people report working from home. There is no doubt that the pandemic changed every aspect of how we live, including our work lives.
With so much uncertainty last year, businesses shut down, and telecommunication became our new normal in the world of work.
Now, a year after lockdown, the country is beginning to open back up, and mask mandates are waning. Everything is heading back to normal.
But certain aspects will stick around for longer than you would expect. Keep reading this article to find out how COVID-19 has affected the way we work.
World of Work Location
The most obvious change that came from 2020 is our work location. Many of us went from hectic morning routines and commuting to an office to walking from our bedroom to our living room computer.
Whether you are a full-time employee or contracted talent from a reputable staffing agency, you probably realized that working from home may be optimal. Many companies have concluded that a lot of the work done in-office can be done remotely and for less of the cost.
Of course, it is still crucial for businesses to continue to humanize work and bring employees into the office if the proper safety conditions are in order.
That said, if there is no penalty to the business for remote work, we may see it stick around a lot longer than expected. We might even see a rise in the percentage of remote workers once the pandemic is under control, going from about 16% to 34%.
The Way We Communicate
Everyone had heard of teleconferencing before the pandemic, but it certainly wasn’t a staple in our work community.
Now, with the need for social distancing, Zoom and teleconferencing calls are booming. We adapted to performing presentations and holding meetings via the online conference room.
The Way We Hire
Many businesses have switched to conducting interviews either through teleconferencing programs or over the phone. While the country is opening back up, some people have returned to the old ways of managing in-person hiring protocols.
However, many are sticking with telephone interviews. Not only does this save the potential employee time, but it helps the business owner manage their daily schedule a bit more efficiently.
Hire a Staffing Agency
As you can tell, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world of work for an indefinite amount of time. Though we may continue to see these strategies for longer than expected, the key is to continue to adapt and evolve so that our work lives remain efficient.
