Wake up, go to class, finish homework, study, sleep and repeat. The average college student knows this cycle a little too well and when class assignments and projects start to pile up, before you put your head back into your book to study for that upcoming test, don’t forget to add one more important item to that list: an internship.
When it comes to working with recent graduates, many apply to an open position with only their education as the only experience listed on their resume without any relevant industry work pertaining to the role. What can help ease your rejection emails or lessen the blow of getting zero response from hiring managers is getting an internship within your desired field.
According to Look Sharp, a recruiting platform dedicated to launching the career of every student, has released their internship data called 2016 State of Millennial Hiring Report. This report asked over 21,000 students to help answer questions like “What are the best tools for finding internships and entry-level jobs? What social media platforms are millennial using to find jobs? What cities/industries do students want to work in? How long does it take for the average student to find full-time employment after graduation?”
The study indicates that graduates who complete three or more internships are more likely to secure full-time employment, with 81.1 percent of graduates reporting that the internships helped them shift their career directions either significantly (34.8 percent) or slightly (46.3 percent) by changing the focus of classes or majors.
So what can you take from the data just presented? Go out there and apply to an internship, either using the search bar or your local staffing agency. Go ahead and check our job board for a full-time position or internship to jump start your career today!
